Moscow Sheremetyevo Approach Control
UUEE / SVO — Russia
Moscow Sheremetyevo (UUEE / SVO) is one of the real-world terminal areas you can control in the free ATC Radar Simulator. Its approach (APP) airspace — centred near 55°58.4'N 37°24.9'E in Russia — is modelled with real runways, radio navaids and instrument procedures. As the approach controller you sequence arriving traffic onto the ILS approach, launch departures on their standard instrument departures, and keep every flight safely separated on the radar.
Sheremetyevo is Russia’s busiest airport and the home base of Aeroflot, sitting in the forests north-west of Moscow. Its parallel runways work a heavy mix of long-haul widebodies and dense domestic traffic spanning eleven time zones, and it shares one of Europe’s most crowded metropolitan airspaces with Domodedovo, Vnukovo and Zhukovsky.
Winter defines the operation at Sheremetyevo: for months of the year arrival rates are governed by snow clearance and de-icing, and a de-icing queue can hold departures long past their slot, so the two flows must be re-planned around the weather rather than the timetable. Aeroflot’s hub banks add sharp peaks, with long-haul waves to Asia arriving while the domestic network feeds connections from across the country.

Runways 06, 24, 07L, 25R are equipped with an ILS (Instrument Landing System) — a localizer for lateral guidance and a glideslope for the descent path down to the threshold. In the simulator you turn arrivals onto the extended centreline, clear them for the approach, and watch them capture the localizer and glideslope automatically.

The terminal airspace
- Transition level: FL60 — below it aircraft fly altitudes on the local QNH; at or above it they fly standard flight levels.
- Upper limit: FL195 — overflights cross the sector below this level.
- The terminal control area (TMA) extends roughly 60 NM around the field.

How to control Moscow Sheremetyevo in the simulator
Sheremetyevo rewards planning the whole picture at once: arrivals converge from every compass point onto the overhead field, so decide each aircraft’s side early rather than untangling them on final. With the neighbouring Moscow airports pressing in on your boundary, keep departures climbing promptly and resist letting the arrival stream sag low and wide.
Pick Moscow Sheremetyevo when you start a session, then double-click an aircraft's data block to assume it. Give it radar headings, climb or descend it to a level and control its speed to build an orderly stream toward the runway. Turn arrivals onto final, clear them for the ILS, and keep at least 3 NM and 1,000 ft between aircraft — the short-term conflict alert (STCA) warns you before a loss of separation. New to it?
