Larnaca ATC Simulator

LCLK / LCA — Cyprus

Larnaca (LCLK / LCA) is one of the real-world terminal areas you can control in the free ATC Radar Simulator. Its approach (APP) airspace — centred near 34°52.5'N 33°37.5'E in Cyprus — is modelled with real runways, radio navaids and instrument procedures. As the approach controller you sequence arriving traffic onto the ILS approach, launch departures on their standard instrument departures, and keep every flight safely separated on the radar.

Larnaca International is Cyprus’s main airport, on the south coast beside the Larnaca Salt Lake, a few kilometres from Larnaca town. A single runway, 04/22, about 3 km long, handles everything from summer holiday flights out of Europe to services across the Middle East, and the Larnaca VOR (LCA) stands on the field.

Runway 22 has Larnaca’s ILS and runway 04 a VOR approach. Traffic from Europe arrives from the north through VESAR and DOREN, flights from the Levant and the Gulf come in from the east and south-east via ALSUS and BALMA, VELOX brings traffic from the south and LUBES from the west past Paphos, and everything converges on the LCA VOR.

Runway 22 is equipped with an ILS (Instrument Landing System) — a localizer for lateral guidance and a glideslope for the descent path down to the threshold. In the simulator you turn arrivals onto the extended centreline, clear them for the approach, and watch them capture the localizer and glideslope automatically.

How to control Larnaca in the simulator

Larnaca is a single-runway island approach: arrivals converge on LCA from all sides — Europe from the north, the Middle East from the east and south-east — onto one final. With streams arriving from such different directions, the skill is timing them so they reach the final in turn rather than together.

Pick Larnaca when you start a session, then double-click an aircraft's data block to assume it. Give it radar headings, climb or descend it to a level and control its speed to build an orderly stream toward the runway. Turn arrivals onto final, clear them for the ILS, and keep at least 3 NM and 1,000 ft between aircraft — the short-term conflict alert (STCA) warns you before a loss of separation. New to it? Read the guide to approach radar control and the ATC glossary first.
