Paris CDG Approach Control

LFPG / CDG — France

Paris CDG (LFPG / CDG) is one of the real-world terminal areas you can control in the free ATC Radar Simulator. Its approach (APP) airspace — centred near 49°0.5'N 2°33.2'E in France — is modelled with real runways, radio navaids and instrument procedures. As the approach controller you sequence arriving traffic onto the ILS approach, launch departures on their standard instrument departures, and keep every flight safely separated on the radar.

Paris Charles de Gaulle is a major European hub and the home of Air France, with two pairs of parallel runways dividing arrivals and departures. Its large, layered terminal area constantly interleaves flows to and from every direction across Europe.

Charles de Gaulle operates two pairs of parallel runways as independent “doublets”, the outer runways for landings and the inner for take-offs, which lets two arrival streams run simultaneously north and south of the terminals. Air France’s hub banks meet a steady flow of long-haul and low-cost traffic, and the Paris TMA has to thread it all past Orly’s flows and Le Bourget’s business jets.

Runways 09L, 27R, 09R, 27L, 08L, 26R, 08R, 26L are equipped with an ILS (Instrument Landing System) — a localizer for lateral guidance and a glideslope for the descent path down to the threshold. In the simulator you turn arrivals onto the extended centreline, clear them for the approach, and watch them capture the localizer and glideslope automatically.

How to control Paris CDG in the simulator

CDG plays like two airports stacked on one scope: run the north and south doublets as independent conveyor belts and cross-feed only when a gap demands it. The skill is symmetry — keep both finals equally fed, and mind the Orly flows pinching your southern downwind.

Pick Paris CDG when you start a session, then double-click an aircraft's data block to assume it. Give it radar headings, climb or descend it to a level and control its speed to build an orderly stream toward the runway. Turn arrivals onto final, clear them for the ILS, and keep at least 3 NM and 1,000 ft between aircraft — the short-term conflict alert (STCA) warns you before a loss of separation. New to it? Read the guide to approach radar control and the ATC glossary first.
